CRAZY FOR CRAZY FROG, or, Peter Principle of Pop Phenomena?

Ted.Cohen@EMICAP.COM writes (on KenRadio's CONNECTED mailing list):
"the #1 song in the U.K., over every band in the world, is a ringtone" --- Do you really believe that Crazy Frog is the beginning of a sweeping new trend in music?? Or maybe just "Purple People Eater 2005 "??
Just wondering
Hi Ted,
I think it's the latter. Good analogy, actually -- both song subjects being non-human!
Just proves yet again that if something is a bit crazy and weird and gains viral wordofmouth steam and becomes a net phenomenon, it can morph into other media as hits, too -- but then seems to die out fast in just about every case. (A Peter Principle of Pop Phenomena, Perhaps?) Another example: Dancing Baby... was born online, became viral net-phenom, made it into a hit TV show episode (Ally McBeal), then didn't last much longer, didn't really have strong legs (cute little legs, maybe, but not strong ones). --------Don
